    Salary Range - $16.50 an hour to start, $17.99 an hour if bilingual in Spanish

    Schedule

    This position's hours will be every Friday and Saturday 11pm-7am.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    • Provides crisis intervention, information, support and referral to victims calling the crisis telephone line at Sojourner House, completing an assessment if necessary.

    • Provides emergency evening and weekend client service intakes.

    • Orients new clients to Sojourner House.

    • Documents resident interaction on Biz Stream

    • Maintains data collection as required for resident/staff interaction

    • May be asked to help train new staff/interns.

    • Performs safety checks, ensuring house safety.

    • Facilitates community meetings to determine the needs of the residents, and weekly support groups, as  needed.

    • Performs tasks such as sorting donations, cleaning, and laundering as assigned.

    • Attends staff and supervision meetings as required.

    • Shifts include some evenings, possible weekends, and holidays throughout the year.

    • Performs other duties as assigned by Senior Director of Residential Services

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

    • High school diploma.  Additional experience in human or social services, particularly with regard to knowledge of domestic violence and sexual assault is preferred. 

    • Knowledge of the facts and dynamics of domestic violence and sexual abuse or learned within the first 60 days of hire.

    • Active listening, crisis intervention, and problem resolution skills.

    • Conflict resolution training.

    • Knowledge of community human service resources.

    • Good written and excellent oral communication skills.

    • Ability to concentrate for extended periods of time on crisis telephone calls, client assessments, and related documentation.

    • Ability to communicate with individuals from diverse cultures and backgrounds.

    • Demonstrated commitment to the empowerment of women and promotion of diversity.

    • Must be able to enter and retrieve data using computer systems, systems applications, and other office equipment.

    • Ability to manage multiple crisis situations while maintaining an even temperament that will allow for quick decision making.

    • Ability to be qualified as an approved driver for the YWCA.

    • Physically able to:  climb, walk, stand, push, pull, lift, grasp, talk, hear, see, and type. 

    • Light work involving sitting most of the time and exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and up to 10 pounds of force frequently for purposes of lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or otherwise moving objects. 

    • Visual acuity is required to perform duties involving operating motor vehicles, or performing tasks involving analysis of data, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading, or making general observations of facilities and/or surroundings.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    • Working environment is considered unpredictable, based upon the high level of client stress and the safety needs of residents and staff.

    • Conditions are subject to occasional exposure to agitated or threatening individuals.  

    • Irregular work hours may exist, including early morning, evening, weekends, and holidays.

    This role provides essential crisis intervention and emotional support to survivors of sexual and intimate partner violence, connecting them with resources like housing, legal aid, and counseling. The on-call advocate responds during medical forensic exams and via the crisis hotline on overnights, weekends, and holidays. Requires availability for at least three 12-hour shifts per month.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

    • Provide staff support to volunteer advocates during overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts, or act as primary on-call advocate when no volunteer advocate is scheduled. 

    • Respond to calls for scheduled medical forensic exams by reporting to the NEP (Nurse Examiner Program) site within one hour of notification. 

    • Provide in-person advocacy for sexual assault and domestic violence survivors in the NEP in the form of medical-forensic examination advocacy during scheduled shifts. 

    • Provide compassionate and confidential advocacy over the phone to survivors who contact our 24-hour crisis line, offering emotional support, safety planning, and referrals to essential services. 

    • Provide survivors and their support networks with detailed information about YWCA services, local community resources, and personalized safety planning to help ensure their immediate and long-term well-being. 

    • Collaborate with Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners, law enforcement and other professionals to ensure trauma-informed, survivor-centered care. 

    • Always maintain strict confidentiality regarding patient and caller information, in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies. 

    • Coordinate transportation to YWCA emergency shelter and meet clients to provide a smooth transition when needed. 

    • Perform other duties as assigned.  

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES 

    • Active listening and crisis intervention skills. 

    • Knowledge of the facts and dynamics of sexual assault, domestic violence, stalking and child sexual  abuse preferred. 

    • Experience in crisis intervention and knowledge of group and family dynamics preferred. 

    • Knowledge of community resources and the criminal justice system. 

    • Ability to evaluate and respond to surroundings is required to perform duties.  

    • Ability to communicate with individuals from diverse cultures and backgrounds. 

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

    • Ability to concentrate for extended periods of time reviewing case materials and official documents.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Oversee the daily operations of the emergency shelter, ensuring a safe, supportive, and healing environment for residents.

    • Develop, implement, and evaluate shelter policies, procedures, and program goals in alignment with organizational mission and funding requirements.

    • Provide leadership and mentorship to shelter staff, fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and trauma-informed workplace culture.

    • Collaborate with other program directors to ensure seamless service delivery across all agency programs.

    • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate shelter staff, including crisis services advocates, crisis facilitators and children's coordinator/house manager.

    • Provide ongoing coaching, crisis support, and professional development opportunities for team members.

    • Ensure adequate 24/7 coverage and effective on-call protocols.

    • Ensure that all residents receive comprehensive, survivor-centered support, including safety planning, case management, advocacy, and access to resources.

    • Maintain high standards of confidentiality, respect, and cultural competence in service delivery.

    • Oversee the management of shelter admissions, occupancy, and resident transitions to longer-term housing or services.

    • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as grant and contract requirements.

    • Develop and manage the shelter budget in collaboration with agency leadership and finance staff.

    • Track and analyze program outcomes, preparing reports for funders and the board of directors.

    • Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners, including law enforcement, hospitals, housing agencies, and social service providers.

    • Represent the shelter and organization at community meetings, coalitions, and public events.

    • Advocate for policies and practices that support survivors of domestic violence and their families.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

    • Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, public administration, or a related field (master’s preferred).

    • Minimum 5–7 years of progressively responsible experience in domestic violence services, shelter management, or human services.

    • Minimum 3 years of supervisory or program management experience.

    • Strong understanding of trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, and empowerment-based advocacy.

    • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.

    • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.

    • Experience managing government or foundation grants is preferred.

    • Knowledge of housing systems, victim services regulations, and confidentiality laws (e.g., VAWA, HIPAA) is preferred.

    • Bilingual or multilingual skills are preferred.
