At the core of the YWCA’s mission is an element of our work essential to creating a more socially just community: empowering women and girls. As early as the 1800’s, the YWCA has provided a unique space for young women to gather and learn skills. The YWCA recognizes that young women bring unique perspectives, experiences, and expectations to shaping environments and communities, and has a long standing history of welcoming opportunities for young women to transition into higher opportunities for leadership. The YWCA West Central Michigan continues to fulfill this mission today through empowerment programming for girls in middle and high school and through recognizing the important work that women in our community are doing every day.
