Helen Claytor Center for Girls’ Leadership

The Helen Claytor Center for Girls’ Leadership at the YWCA West Central Michigan provides girls and gender-expansive/non-binary leaders with space to explore their passions and make a difference in their communities.

Our staff work alongside participants and alumni to design and plan our programming-  we believe youth voice is vital not only in our work but also in social justice movements. The YWCA knows that young people are not our future leaders… they’re already leading and creating change.

Our main program, YW for Change, is centered on social justice and activism and runs throughout the school year.  For more information about YW for Change or to apply for the program, click here.

About Helen Claytor

Helen Jackson Wilkins Claytor (1907-2005), a lifelong supporter and leader of the YWCA, spent her life working tirelessly to ensure the rights of all individuals, especially for women and people of color.

The impact she had on the YWCA is invaluable and has inspired us to create a center that will forever devote time and passion toward the fight for racial and gender equity in her honor.

Note: Helen Claytor Center for Girls’ Leadership programming is open to all youth – cisgender, transgender, gender-nonconforming, genderqueer, and two-spirit people – who identify with girlhood, womanhood, or femininity.
