The YWCA West Central Michigan – an organization committed to empowering women, promoting diversity, and advocating for justice and equality – is looking for full time and / or part time Therapists to join our Counseling Program and the YWCA family.
The effort to end the crisis of domestic abuse and sexual violence is complex and consequently, the YWCA’s approach is multi-faceted. GENERAL SUMMARY
Under clinical supervision, provides assessment and recuperative services in the forms of individual, family, conjoint, and group counseling and education; generates appropriate documentation regarding, and acts to coordinate community services for victims traumatized by violence.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides direct counseling service to consumers of Counseling programming, which includes but may not be limited to: assessing needs, monitoring and evaluating plans and progress, facilitating interdisciplinary approaches with; individual, conjoint, group and family counseling; and educational classes.
- Provide linking, advocacy, coordinating, and monitoring services for victims traumatized by violence. Service may be provided in-office or as outreach to client home or school.
- Responsible for determining consumer needs by completing intake interviews, reviewing evaluations, objectives, goals, and plans.
- Monitor cases by verifying consumers’ attendance and eligibility for grant/contract funding. Advocate for needed services; obtain additional resources; intervening in crises.
- Responsible for maintaining up-to-date records of consumer contact as prescribed by the agency, including but not limited to: encounter notes; monthly/quarterly reports; assessment summaries; and closing reports.
- Communicate consumers’ progress by participating regularly in supervision, which may include, but is not limited to: group consultation; individual supervision; live (observed) supervision; and external consultation.
- Participates in regular team and agency meetings.
- Provides a minimum of 22 direct (face-to-face) clinical units (18.3 clock hours) of service per week, unless otherwise instructed.
- Assumes responsibility for own ongoing clinical growth; remains current with field literature; attends training as required by program, licensure or personal objectives. YWCA financial support may be utilized as available for training.
- Provides court testimony.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Master’s degree in psychology, social work, or closely related field from an accredited university. Specific training in child sexual abuse, family therapy, domestic violence, or sexual assault is highly desired.
- Two years (may include internships) of direct, clinical experience.
- Licensure in the State of Michigan. At minimum, must have a limited license. In some instances, a temporary license may be acceptable.
- A demonstrated working knowledge of basic psychological theory, which may include but not be limited to: psycho/moral child development; trauma resolution (including knowledge of PTSD); systems theory; crisis management; empowerment models.
- A demonstrated capacity to express self efficiently and professionally in written and oral formats.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with a willingness to work from a team perspective in treatment provision.
- Ability to manage stressful situations, i.e., client crisis, multiple and simultaneous duties, critical decision making, and court testimony.
- Capacity to learn and utilize audio and video equipment (television and DVD), as well as other basic office equipment (telephones, photocopiers, fax machines, computer, etc.).
- Capacity to utilize computers to generate reports and participate in electronic record-keeping.
- Ability to manage own time effectively.
- Ability to communicate with individuals from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
- Has access to and willingness to use personal transportation for business purposes, with compensation as allowed per policy.
- Ability to be qualified as an approved driver for the YWCA.
- Capable of interacting with children in a physical fashion during the course of individual and group therapy. May include several hours per week of vigorous activity.
- Ability to concentrate for extended periods of time in consecutive treatment sessions, report writing, and document review.
- Visual acuity is required to perform duties involving operating motor vehicles, or performing tasks involving analysis of data, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading, or requiring the ability to evaluate and respond to surroundings.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work environment includes typical office setting and service recipient’s home environment. These are potentially unpredictable based upon the degree of stress experienced by service recipients.
- Irregular work hours may exist, including early mornings and/or evenings.
- Conditions are subject to occasional exposure to agitated or threatening individuals.
